Algiers – The newly appointed ambassador of the European Union to Algeria, Mr. Diego Miadau Pascua, described Algeria as a “unique, essential, and indispensable” partner for the European Union. His remarks came following a ceremony in Algiers on Monday, where he presented his credentials to President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

In his statement, Mr. Pascua emphasized the shared destiny between Algeria and the EU, expressing hope for continued collaboration. “Our futures are intertwined, and we aim to work together to ensure the complementarity of the Algerian and European economies. We also hope to maintain a continuous political dialogue,” the ambassador said.

He further highlighted the importance of fostering cooperation “within the framework of European solidarity,” involving all EU member states alongside Algeria. “Algeria is a unique, essential, and indispensable partner for Europe,” Pascua stressed.

Strengthening Economic and Political Ties

The ambassador noted that his meeting with President Tebboune provided an opportunity to review the “rich, dense, and diverse” relationship between Algeria and the European Union, particularly in the areas of trade exchanges and investments.

During their discussions, they also touched on the Algeria-EU partnership agreement and explored ways to strengthen the “solid friendship” between both sides.

The talks addressed migration flows and various shared challenges affecting both Algeria and Europe. The conversation extended to broader geopolitical issues, with a focus on Africa and the Sahel region. Ambassador Pascua praised Algeria’s regional influence, describing it as a “regional power.”
