Algiers – A delegation from Algeria’s Ministry of Energy and Mining began a working visit to the Czech Republic on Monday to explore investment and partnership opportunities in the mining sector, according to a statement from the ministry.
The delegation is led by Abdelkarim Aouissi, Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy and Mining, and includes senior officials from the ministry, the CEO of Sonarem Group, and the Director of the Algerian Geological Service Agency.
Focus on Bilateral Cooperation and Investment Priorities
During the visit, the Algerian delegation was received by Vladimir Mana, Secretary General of the Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade, in the presence of Algeria’s Ambassador to the Czech Republic. Discussions centered on a draft roadmap outlining the priority areas for bilateral cooperation and investment in the mining sector, aiming to create mutually beneficial partnerships.
The meeting also highlighted opportunities in mining exploration and processing, as well as geological studies related to minerals and natural resources. The parties discussed joint research initiatives involving geological mapping, publications, and geophysical reports to further enhance collaboration.
Strengthening Ties Following Previous Czech Visit to Algeria
The current visit, which will run until October 24, follows a series of prior meetings and exchanges between the two countries. Notably, a Czech delegation visited Algeria in May 2022, during which Czech companies expressed significant interest in pursuing business and investment opportunities with Algerian counterparts in the mining sector.
That visit culminated in the signing of a memorandum of understanding, attended by Algerian Energy and Mining Minister Mohamed Arkab, outlining key points of agreement. The memorandum emphasized the importance of increasing exchanges between the geological institutions and mining laboratories of both nations, as well as cooperation in environmental studies, mining exploration technologies, and the development of gemstone mines.
