The Algerian Commission for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency is set to organize a workshop this Thursday in Algiers, focusing on decarbonizing the industrial sector. This event will take place in partnership with the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), aiming to foster knowledge exchange and strengthen national capacities to reduce carbon emissions.
According to the commission’s statement on Tuesday, the workshop seeks to create “a platform for sharing knowledge and experiences between Algerian and Korean stakeholders to enhance efforts in cutting carbon emissions within the industrial sector.”
The event will bring together national and international experts from the industrial sector, along with technical and financial partners, to discuss innovative solutions for progressive decarbonization tailored to Algeria’s industrial landscape. The workshop will also feature representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, sector-specific institutions, and the Korean ambassador to Algeria, alongside the director of KOICA.
Emphasizing Carbon Footprint Assessment
During the workshop, the focus will be placed on evaluating the carbon footprint, which plays a crucial role in aligning industrial strategies with sustainable development goals and international commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This evaluation is expected to serve as a key driver for the adaptation of Algeria’s industrial policies to global environmental standards.
The commission highlighted that this workshop builds on the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in June between the Algerian body for renewable energy and the Korea Energy Agency. It also follows previous forums organized with Korean partners and a recent study trip to South Korea, which provided valuable insights into Algeria’s energy and industrial transition strategies.
Importance of Decarbonization for Algeria’s Future
The statement concluded by underscoring the critical importance of decarbonizing the industrial sector for Algeria, both in addressing global climate challenges and in supporting the country’s sustainable development efforts. This workshop represents an essential opportunity to strengthen bilateral cooperation with South Korea and promote innovative approaches that align with the specific needs of Algeria’s industrial sector.
