Amazigh Film Festival in Tizi Ouzou: 16 Films Compete for the “Golden Olive Tree” Award

Tizi Ouzou – Sixteen films will compete for the prestigious “Golden Olive Tree” award during the 18th edition of the National Amazigh Film Festival, which is set to take place from October 26 to 30 in the province of Tizi Ouzou, according to the event organizers.

During a press conference held on Wednesday, festival commissioner Ammar Tribach and the provincial director of culture and arts, Nabila Koumziyan, provided details of the event. The competition will feature films across four categories: feature films, short films, documentaries, and animated films. All screenings will take place at the Djurdjura Cinema Hall, with two daily sessions scheduled at 10:00 AM and 1:30 PM.

Competition Categories and Films

In the feature film category, the following works will vie for the top prize:

  • “Amchehheh” (The Miser) by Nabil Mouhoubi
  • “Tuzziynit” (The Beautiful) by Louznas Amroun
  • “Lakhdaâ Nouathamathen” (The Trick of Brothers)
  • “Argu” (The Dream) by Omar Belkacemi

For the short films category, entries include:

  • “Damiat Dhakirat” (Bloody Memories) by Mourad Bouamrane
  • “Housh Dradem” by Samir Chemour
  • “Ghina Arous Al-Bahr” (The Song of the Mermaid) by Arzeki Al-Arabi
  • “Horr” (Free) by Rabah Yaakoubi

In the documentary section, the participating films are:

  • “Lathr Netjdidith” (The Legacy of Our Ancestors) by Rachid Bouider
  • “Ata” (The Weaving Craft) by Djemal Bacha
  • “Al-Tariq Al-Akhdar” (The Green Road) by Oussama Rai
  • “Casa Blanche” by Reda Belghiat

The animated films category will showcase:

  • “Yetzel Wuchan” (The Wolf Runs) by Lydia Akli Sahraoui
  • “Athmathen” (The Brothers) by Tiziri Sahraoui
  • “Mazigh” by Anis and Samir Chellali
  • “Anwa Agleed Nalgaba” (Who is the King of the Forest?) by Anissa Mohamedi

Event Highlights and Special Screenings

Festival commissioner Ammar Tribach noted that the 16 films in competition were selected from a pool of 30 submissions. This year’s edition is being held under the theme “Cinema at the Heart of Revolution,” as a tribute to the Palestinian cause and the late Algerian filmmaker Belkacem Hadjadj.

In addition to the competition, several films related to both the Palestinian struggle and the Algerian liberation movement will be screened in the Cinematheque library under the “Panorama of Algerian Cinema”. These films include “Sana’oud” (We Will Return), “Fatma N’Soumer,” “El-Tayara Al-Safraa” (The Yellow Airplane), and “El-Sahra El-Wardiya” (The Pink Desert).

The festival will also feature lectures, discussions, and workshops focused on Algerian cinema, alongside screenings of films that highlight Algeria’s struggle for independence, according to the event’s official schedule.
