Algerian Health Minister Inaugurates 16th Oncology Conference

Algiers – The 16th Oncology Conference, organized by the Algerian Association for Training and Research in Oncology (SAFRO) in collaboration with the Arab Medical Association Against Cancer (AMAC), was officially inaugurated on Thursday evening by Minister of Health Abdelhak Saihi.

During the opening ceremony, the minister announced the establishment of a specialized cancer research center in Oran at the beginning of next year, with plans to create regional branches in the future to support decentralized research efforts across the country.

High-Level Participation and Multi-Sectoral Collaboration

The two-day conference brings together key figures from various sectors. Among the attendees were:

  • Ali Aoun, Minister of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production
  • Fayçal Ben Taleb, Minister of Labor, Employment, and Social Security
  • Mohamed Seghir Saadoui, Advisor to the President of the Republic for Education, Higher Education, and Professional Training

The event also featured participation from Professor Adda Bounoujar, President of the National Committee for Cancer Prevention and Control, and Kamel Sanhadji, head of the National Agency for Health Security.

A Collaborative Approach to Cancer Research and Control

Minister Saihi emphasized the importance of multi-sectoral collaboration in cancer research, treatment, and prevention. “The new research center in Oran will serve as a hub for innovation, aiming to advance Algeria’s capabilities in cancer research,” Saihi stated. He also outlined the ministry’s commitment to creating regional branches to ensure that the latest research findings and technologies reach all parts of the country.

The presence of industry, social security, and education officials at the event reflects Algeria’s integrated approach to health challenges, with an emphasis on training, research, and social protection to enhance cancer care.

This conference provides a platform for local and international experts to share insights and explore new scientific advances in oncology, reinforcing Algeria’s role in the regional fight against cancer.
