On Wednesday, October 30, 2024, Mr. Ibrahim Boughali, President of Algeria’s National People’s Assembly, received Mr. Vladislav Davankov, Deputy Chairman of Russia’s State Duma, during his official visit to Algeria. The meeting underscored the commitment of both nations to enhance their bilateral ties, as outlined in a statement from the National People’s Assembly.
During the discussions, both parties reviewed the “current state and future potential of bilateral relations” and emphasized the need to “strengthen and expand them to align with the political will of the two countries’ leadership.” This commitment was recently solidified in a new declaration on deep strategic partnership between Algeria and Russia, which elevates their historical relationship to a new level of cooperation.
Mr. Boughali highlighted the “quality of friendship and cooperation” shared between Algeria and Russia, acknowledging the mutual commitment to deepening this bond. He also referenced recent high-level visits as a testament to the strengthening ties between the two nations.
The Algerian Assembly President expressed his confidence in the strategic agreement as a “foundation for enhancing and expanding relations between the two countries in various fields, especially economic, academic, and cultural.” He emphasized that both nations have “the resources and opportunities necessary to elevate their relationship beyond trade to a broader framework of investment and mutually beneficial partnerships.”
On the parliamentary front, Mr. Boughali called for “strengthening cooperation and dialogue between the legislative institutions of both countries to match the strategic partnership they share.” He underlined the importance of parliamentary collaboration in cementing this high-level alliance.
In response, Mr. Davankov expressed his gratitude for the warm reception, which coincides with the 70th anniversary of Algeria’s November 1 Revolution. Leading a delegation of Russian lawmakers, Mr. Davankov reiterated his commitment to “promoting and advancing bilateral relations through practical steps that reflect the existing political will and the promising avenues for cooperation.”
Mr. Davankov also stressed the importance of “strengthening channels of consultation, experience-sharing, and exchanges between the parliaments of both countries,” highlighting the role of legislative collaboration in furthering the strategic partnership.
