70th Anniversary of the November 1954 Revolution: Minister Mologi Inaugurates “Panorama of Algerian Visual Art (1954-2024)” Exhibition

On the evening of October 30, 2024, Algeria’s Minister of Culture and Arts, Soraya Mologi, inaugurated the “Panorama of Algerian Visual Art (1954-2024)” exhibition in Algiers. This showcase offers a comprehensive look at some of the most influential Algerian artworks spanning seven decades, reflecting key national and historical events.

Held at the Mufdi Zakaria Palace of Culture, the exhibition will run until November 20 and features more than 200 pieces of Algerian visual art. The display also includes museum and private collections that illustrate the evolution of Algerian visual arts over 70 years, according to Minister Mologi.

Minister Mologi emphasized that this major exhibition is part of the celebrations marking the 70th anniversary of the outbreak of the Algerian Revolution. The Ministry of Culture and Arts has developed a rich and exceptional program to honor this historic occasion. The program includes academic, artistic, and intellectual initiatives, such as the creation of eight new theatrical productions, which will be performed at the Algerian National Theatre and regional theaters. Additionally, a Revolutionary National Theater Festival will be held at the Naâma Regional Theater in late November.

In the literary and intellectual sphere, the ministry will host the second edition of the International Conference on Cultural Resistance, focusing on memory and cinema. Organized by the Algerian Center for Cinema Development, this event will explore how cinema preserves and conveys Algeria’s historical memory. Concurrently, a national symposium on culture and its role in challenging colonial narratives will be organized by the National Book Center.

Minister Mologi also mentioned the ministry’s collaboration with cultural institutions on several operatic works. These include a production by the Algerian Opera titled “The Price of Freedom,” and an epic performance, “Sands of Struggle,” by the Riyadh El Feth Foundation, which will depict the resistance of the Algerian people, particularly in the southern regions.

The “Panorama of Algerian Visual Art” exhibition showcases a remarkable collection of works by renowned Algerian artists, representing diverse styles and historical periods. Featured artists include Mohammed Khadda, Mohammed Issiakhem, Faris Boukhatem, Baya, Aicha Haddad, Mostafa Adane, Ali Khodja, Mustapha Boutagine, Tahar Ouamane, Farid Benyaa, Yamina Bourahla, and Juhida Houadef.
