Oran – Leaders and representatives from national youth councils across 24 African countries gathered on Saturday evening in Oran for a consultative meeting aimed at unifying and strengthening collaborative efforts for the benefit of African youth. This event took place on the sidelines of the African Youth Forum hosted in Oran.
Mustapha Hidaoui, President of Algeria’s Supreme Youth Council, highlighted in a press briefing following the meeting that “participants emphasized the need to create networks and unify efforts of official youth councils across Africa through a coordinated mechanism.” The framework for this collaboration will be developed through ongoing consultations, led by a committee comprising youth council leaders from Algeria, South Africa, and Cameroon.
This consultative meeting offered an opportunity for representatives to learn about the structures and operational methods of youth councils across African nations. They discussed how joint initiatives could be strengthened to amplify youth roles in various areas, thereby supporting the development of their countries.
Fatima Ewao, President of Cameroon’s National Youth Council, praised the proposal to establish a sustainable coordination mechanism among African youth councils. She noted that periodic meetings could serve as a platform for addressing issues of common interest and consolidating efforts to support African youth.
Anthony Tulika Bsia, President of South Africa’s National Youth Council, also welcomed the initiative to enhance continental coordination among youth councils, expressing his council’s willingness to collaborate with other councils to empower youth across Africa.
