Cairo – The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that the official draw for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) will take place on Friday, November 22, featuring 12 nations, including Algeria.
The draw is scheduled to begin at 8:00 PM Algerian time (7:00 PM GMT) and will be broadcast live on major African and international television networks, as well as CAF’s digital platform, CAF TV.
This highly anticipated event will determine the groupings and paths for the 12 participating teams competing in Africa’s premier women’s football tournament.
Tournament Overview
The 13th edition of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations will be held from July 5 to July 26, 2025, following its rescheduling from 2024.
Algeria’s national women’s team secured their place in the tournament in December 2023, defeating Burundi in a two-legged qualifier with scores of 5-1 and 1-0, both matches held at the July 5 Stadium in Algiers. This marks Algeria’s return to the continental stage after missing the previous two editions.
Preparations and Recent Matches
In preparation for the upcoming competition, the Algerian women’s team, led by coach Farid Benstiti, played two friendly matches against Nigeria on October 26 and October 29, losing 0-2 in Kenya and 1-4 in Lagos.
The Reigning Champions
South Africa enters the tournament as the defending champions, having claimed the title in the 2022 edition of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
