Algerian Senate Foreign Affairs Committee Hosts Iranian Parliamentary Delegation for Strategic Talks

Algiers – The Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and the Algerian Community Abroad in the Algerian Senate, Mr. Mohamed Amroune, welcomed an Iranian parliamentary delegation from the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, headed by Dr. Ebrahim Azizi, on Sunday in Algiers. The meeting was held in the presence of Iran’s Ambassador to Algeria, Mr. Mohammad Reza Babaei, as stated in an official Senate communiqué.

Under the mandate of Senate President Mr. Salah Goudjil, Mr. Amroune, accompanied by members of his committee, hosted the Iranian delegation to discuss avenues for enhancing the bilateral relations between Algeria and Iran. Both parties emphasized their shared commitment to mutual trust, respect, and collaboration on pressing regional and international issues, including the Palestinian cause and challenges faced by the Muslim world.

Strengthening Algeria-Iran Relations

The meeting highlighted the determination of the two nations’ leaders—Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and his Iranian counterpart Masoud Bazshkian—to elevate economic cooperation to match their exemplary political relations. Mr. Amroune praised Algeria and Iran’s alignment in international and regional forums, such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

Mr. Amroune also stressed the need for concerted efforts to ensure the enforcement of international laws amidst escalating global security challenges, particularly the catastrophic consequences of Israel’s ongoing aggression in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories. He called for unified Islamic parliamentary action to address such critical issues, reflecting Algeria’s steadfast position on decolonization and justice—a hallmark of its diplomacy under President Tebboune’s leadership.

Iranian Delegation Applauds Algeria’s Role

Dr. Ebrahim Azizi expressed gratitude to Algeria’s leadership and people on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Algerian War of Independence, describing it as a source of pride for the entire African continent. He also commended the growing Algeria-Iran relations across various sectors, driven by agreements signed earlier this year.

Dr. Azizi emphasized shared values between the two nations, which pave the way for enhanced economic and trade exchanges, particularly in agriculture, tourism, and knowledge-based industries. He further acknowledged Algeria’s unwavering support for oppressed nations, including its staunch defense of the Palestinian cause.

Boosting Parliamentary Cooperation

Both sides called for strengthened ties between their respective parliaments by activating mechanisms of parliamentary diplomacy, such as friendship groups and exchanges of visits and expertise. These efforts aim to bolster solidarity between the peoples of Algeria and Iran and establish an effective parliamentary partnership that supports broader bilateral cooperation.
