Algiers, November 25, 2024 – President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, in his capacity as the head of the Supreme Judicial Council, officially inaugurated the judicial year 2024/2025 in a ceremony held in Algiers. During the event, he reiterated his unwavering dedication to ensuring all professional and social conditions are met to establish a truly independent and fair justice system.

In his speech, President Tebboune emphasized that the annual judicial inauguration symbolizes the noble mission of justice and the vital role of an independent judiciary. He praised Algeria’s efforts in building a republican judicial system that is fortified by public trust and staffed by committed and honorable judges dedicated to delivering equitable justice for all citizens.

A Clear Vision for Judicial Reform

The President highlighted that reforms in the justice sector must be guided by a clear vision and a conducive environment to empower the judiciary to perform its duties effectively and decisively. Reflecting on Algeria’s progress since the implementation of the new constitution, he stated that this framework has solidified the independence of the judiciary, a cornerstone of Algeria’s governance.

President Tebboune reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to modernize legal frameworks, enhance judicial independence, and strengthen the protection and training of legal professionals. This, he noted, is essential to ensuring the judiciary’s effectiveness and its role in safeguarding rights and fostering confidence in legal institutions.

Focus on Governance and Anti-Corruption

Underscoring the priority of ethical governance, President Tebboune detailed his government’s efforts to combat corruption and malfeasance. He highlighted the overhaul of national legal systems, with reforms designed to streamline procedures, close loopholes, and establish enduring legal security. The President expressed pride in Algeria’s resilience against internal and external pressures, noting the significant strides made in restoring trust in state institutions.

The President also stressed the judiciary’s role in economic protection, not repression, ensuring that errors in management are addressed fairly without benefiting individuals or networks with ulterior motives.

Judicial Modernization and Digital Transformation

Acknowledging the strides made in modernizing Algeria’s judicial sector, President Tebboune pointed to advancements in infrastructure, digitalization, and administrative processes. He pledged further investment in digital transformation, ensuring the judiciary operates with efficiency and transparency. These initiatives aim to provide accessible, swift, and high-quality services to all citizens.

Support for Palestinian Rights and International Justice

In closing, President Tebboune expressed gratitude for the global solidarity shown towards Palestine, particularly in response to Algeria’s call last year for legal action against Israeli atrocities in Gaza. He praised the international community’s support, including allies like South Africa, in pursuing justice for the Palestinian people through international courts.

The President reiterated his commitment to addressing challenges faced by judges and legal professionals, ensuring they can fully dedicate themselves to their noble mission of upholding justice. He concluded by reaffirming Algeria’s steadfast position in supporting independent and impartial justice systems as a pillar of governance and human dignity.
