Constitutional Court Organizes Training Workshop for Trainee Lawyers on Constitutional Challenges

On Thursday, November 28, 2024, members of the Constitutional Court in Algeria are overseeing the fifth training workshop for trainee lawyers, held at the Lawyers’ Organization in the Ouargla region. This workshop is part of the inaugural trial edition of the National Competition for the Best Argument in Constitutional Challenges, according to a statement from the Constitutional Court.

The workshop is organized as part of the first trial edition of the National Competition for the Best Legal Argument in Constitutional Challenges, which is being jointly held by the Constitutional Court and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Algeria. It targets young trainee lawyers from various regional bar associations, including Algiers, Constantine, Oran, Mascara, Médéa, and Ouargla, as well as the corresponding judicial councils. The initiative is being overseen by the President of the Constitutional Court, Mr. Omar Belhaj, with the collaboration of the UNDP.

The primary goal of these workshops is to familiarize young lawyers with the key concepts surrounding constitutional challenges and to highlight the critical role of the lawyer in preparing the legal briefs for such challenges. These briefs require advanced legal qualifications and understanding. Additionally, the training focuses on techniques for drafting constitutional challenge motions and presenting arguments before the Constitutional Court.

This fifth workshop follows four previous sessions that have already been conducted for trainee lawyers at the judicial councils of Djelfa, the Meda region, Mascara, Oran, and Constantine. These workshops have been conducted by members of the Constitutional Court, and today’s event in Ouargla marks the fifth session in this ongoing series, designed to strengthen the legal skills of Algeria’s future legal professionals.
