Algerian National Parks Shine on Mars: A Historic and Global Recognition

Washington – The renowned Algerian national parks of Tassili n’Ajjer, Djurdjura, and Gouraya, famous for their stunning landscapes and unique biodiversity, have now been officially mapped on Mars. This historic recognition was made possible through the initiative of prominent physicist, Professor Nourreddine Melikchi, and marks a significant achievement for Algeria’s natural heritage.

This honor is truly “historic and global,” highlighting the precious value of Algeria’s natural treasures, which have now been immortalized beyond our planet’s borders.

Professor Melikchi remarked, “Our national parks are more than just natural spaces; they represent our collective memory and reflect the richness of our national identity. Their inclusion in Mars’ map is a tribute to our eternal Algeria, symbolizing the connection between our land and the Red Planet.”

The physicist, known for his work in atomic and molecular laser spectroscopy, expressed his gratitude to the scientific teams involved in NASA’s Mars missions, acknowledging their vital role. He specifically thanked Jeffrey Schroeder from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory for his contribution, emphasizing that this achievement has allowed Algeria’s natural heritage to shine in the cosmos.

Algeria’s Ambassador to the United States, Mr. Sabri Boukadoum, also expressed his admiration for this exceptional milestone. He stated, “This recognition of our national parks being mapped on Mars is a source of pride for Algeria. It symbolizes the richness and diversity of our landscapes, as well as our cultural heritage, which we must protect and be proud of.”

This historic moment serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving our natural landscapes and biodiversity. Ambassador Boukadoum called on every Algerian, both at home and abroad, to rediscover and safeguard these natural treasures for future generations.

He further added that this recognition inspires collective commitment to valuing our priceless heritage and exploring new scientific frontiers. The advancements made by NASA’s Curiosity and Perseverance missions, which continue to captivate the world by uncovering the secrets of the Red Planet, have also contributed to this remarkable achievement.

Since the arrival of explorers on Mars, many great discoveries have been made, such as the confirmation of past water presence by Curiosity and the search for signs of microbial life on Mars by Perseverance at Jezero Crater, which is collecting samples in preparation for its eventual return to Earth.
