African Military Games: Algerian Shooting Team Wins 32 Medals, Including 11 Gold

Abuja – The Algerian military shooting team achieved outstanding success at the African Military Games in Abuja, Nigeria, securing a total of 32 medals, including 11 gold, 10 silver, and 11 bronze. The competition, which continues until November 30, highlighted the skill and dedication of the Algerian team, according to a statement from the Ministry of National Defense.

The Algerian team’s success was marked by a particularly strong performance in the hammer throw event, held at the “Moshod Abiola” National Stadium. The gold medal in the event was claimed by Algerian athlete Zahra Tatar, who triumphed over competitors from Nigeria and South Africa.

In addition to shooting, the Algerian military judo team also made notable achievements, earning three gold medals. Leila Mehdi won the gold in the women’s 100 kg weight category, while Ben Chaoual Dhiya took gold in the 78 kg category. The Algerian judo team also triumphed in the team event. Meanwhile, judokas Dagoul Lukman and Fathouh Abdelkader each earned silver medals in their respective categories.

The Algerian military volleyball team also shone, securing the gold medal after a dominant 3-0 victory over Sierra Leone, showcasing the professionalism and skill of Algeria’s elite sports contingent.

In athletics, Hicham Mechicha earned a bronze medal in the 3000-meter steeplechase, while Diaa Chérif Boudomi also secured a bronze in the triple jump, adding to the country’s medal tally.

The Algerian team’s exceptional performance at the African Military Games underscores the growing prominence of Algeria’s military sports program on the continental stage.
