Algiers – The National Library of Algeria organized an intellectual seminar on the Palestinian cause and the culture of resistance today, Saturday, in Algiers. The seminar highlighted the significant role Algeria has played throughout history in defending the Palestinian cause.
This event, which took place under the supervision of the Minister of Culture and Arts, Zohir Ballo, in collaboration with the Algerian Foundation for Reconstruction in Palestine, marked the 46th anniversary of the death of President Houari Boumediene (1932-1978). It was attended by representatives of the Presidents of the Council of the Nation and the National People’s Assembly, as well as several civil society leaders, writers, and intellectuals.
In his speech, the President of the Algerian Foundation for Reconstruction in Palestine, Nasr al-Din Hazem, emphasized the “central role Algeria has played throughout history and the commitment of its leaders to support the Palestinian cause.”
He added that discussing the culture of resistance “must be based on the compass of freedom that guided the Algerian people in their struggle against the French colonizer from 1830 to 1962, a struggle that cost millions of martyrs.”
Mohamed Omaroun, deputy representing the President of the Council of the Nation, defined the culture of resistance as “a set of values, principles, and behaviors that the Algerians adopted during their resistance to French colonialism.” He also reaffirmed that “Algeria’s stance toward the Palestinian cause has always been honorable and remains a cornerstone of the nation’s policy, as established by President Boumediene.”
Meanwhile, Nasser Batchi, a representative of the National People’s Assembly, recalled the famous words of the late President Boumediene, “Palestine, oppressed or oppressing,” calling it “a living slogan followed by all Algerians.” He emphasized that it reflects the long history of popular resistance and the relentless struggle of the Algerian people for freedom.
The speaker also recalled the National Palestinian Unity Conference, organized under the patronage of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, considering it “another Algerian initiative in a series of positions and initiatives Algeria has expressed openly and without hesitation in international forums, all rooted in a sincere belief in the justice of the Palestinian cause.”
