President Tebboune Highlights New Approach to Public Affairs Management in Address to Parliament

Algiers – President Abdelmadjid Tebboune affirmed on Sunday in Algiers that delivering an address to the representatives of the people reflects a new methodology in public affairs management and a commitment to good governance.

Emphasis on Public Accountability and Governance

In his speech before both chambers of Parliament at the Palace of Nations, Tebboune described the practice of addressing the nation as an acknowledgment of the people’s representatives and a manifestation of the administration’s dedication to transparent governance.

He further elaborated on the revised municipal and provincial laws, which he identified as a step toward genuine democracy and the completion of the state’s structural hierarchy.

Advocacy for Constructive Dialogue

Tebboune emphasized the importance of engaging in calm, uncompromised dialogue, criticizing certain demands for change that fail to include the proposers in the process.

Economic Achievements and Ambitions

On the economic front, Tebboune declared that Algeria’s financial and economic indicators are “in the green,” as validated internationally. He noted Algeria’s trajectory toward becoming a leading emerging market, underpinned by significant development projects, including mining initiatives and strategic railway expansions into the southern region of Tamanrasset.

He also announced that the Port of Oran is set to receive its first shipment of iron from the Gara Djebilet mines by 2026.

Energy Independence and Agricultural Development

The President highlighted Algeria’s achievement of energy self-sufficiency, with an electricity surplus of 12,000 MW available for export. He celebrated Algeria’s transition from a fuel importer to a producer of all types of gasoline by 2021, thanks to domestic expertise.

In agriculture, Tebboune revealed that Algeria’s production now stands at an equivalent of $37 billion, with the nation targeting self-sufficiency in soft wheat following success in durum wheat.

Industrial and Social Progress

Tebboune acknowledged challenges in the industrial sector, attributing past stagnation to misguided policies. He expressed optimism about rectifying these issues, ensuring industrial growth contributes significantly to the GDP.

Addressing social needs, he defended the state’s housing projects as a cornerstone of citizen dignity. He dismissed claims of wastefulness, stating that these initiatives rely entirely on locally produced materials.

Calls for National Investment

The President urged Algerians living abroad to invest in their homeland, reassuring them of a stable investment framework and encouraging patriotic engagement against any entities hostile to Algeria.

Support for Startups and Youth Empowerment

Praising the contributions of young Algerian entrepreneurs, Tebboune emphasized their role in diversifying the economy, marking Algeria as a regional hub for innovative enterprises.

Commitment to Historical Justice and Foreign Policy

Tebboune strongly condemned colonial-era atrocities, demanding accountability and reparations, particularly for nuclear testing in southern Algeria. He reiterated Algeria’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and highlighted the unresolved issue of Western Sahara, dismissing Morocco’s autonomy proposal as a French construct incompatible with decolonization principles.

Outlook on Algeria’s Future

President Tebboune concluded with a reaffirmation of Algeria’s resilience and forward momentum, vowing continued progress in economic, social, and political domains.
