Emergency Meeting of the UN Security Council

The United Nations Security Council is holding an emergency session today, Friday, to address the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian issue. The meeting was convened at the request of Algeria, which currently holds the council presidency for January.

The session will discuss recent Israeli attacks on healthcare facilities in Gaza, most notably the bombing of the Martyr Kamal Adwan Hospital in the northern part of the territory.

In this context, Ben Djamaa emphasized, “The Palestinian cause will be elevated to a ministerial level, led by Minister of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf.”

During a press conference on Thursday, Ben Djamaa pledged, “We will continue to spotlight the suffering of Palestinians and the catastrophic conditions in Gaza.” He added, “We are closely monitoring the situation in Gaza with deep concern and will take necessary steps in coordination with Palestinian brothers and humanitarian actors.”

Ben Djamaa reiterated the urgent need for a resolution, stating, “The only solution for Gaza is an immediate, permanent, and unconditional ceasefire.”
