Ben Mubarak: National Dialogue Timeline Rests with the President, Free from Pressure or Coercion

Abdelkrim Ben Mubarak, Secretary-General of the National Liberation Front (FLN) party, emphasized that President Abdelmadjid Tebboune is solely responsible for initiating the national dialogue. The timing of this dialogue will depend on circumstances deemed suitable by the president, free from external pressure, coercion, or blackmail.

Speaking at a seminar titled “Political Analysis of Municipal and Provincial Law” at the party headquarters, Ben Mubarak stated, “Like everyone else, we await this national dialogue, which we hope will be calm, constructive, and successful. It will address key challenges related to security, stability, and external pressures amid the accelerating international transformations affecting our regional environment.”

He added, “These challenges require collective mobilization. This calls on all of us—political parties, social actors, and intellectuals—to work together to create a united front in support of our state by strengthening national cohesion and the internal front.”

Regional and International Context

Ben Mubarak stressed that the current regional and global context demands collective efforts to safeguard the stability Algeria enjoys. He warned of rising tensions in neighboring regions that threaten peace and security.

Comprehensive Review of Municipal and Provincial Laws

Regarding the draft laws on municipalities and provinces, Ben Mubarak highlighted President Tebboune’s dedication to these projects, given their importance. He emphasized that municipalities form the core of local governance and decentralization, serving as a vital link between the state and its citizens.

The FLN Secretary-General expressed the party’s commitment to ensuring a thorough review of municipal and provincial laws. These revisions aim to expand the powers and resources of elected officials, implement participatory democracy, and reflect the will of the people at the local level. He added that empowering local governments will transform them into engines of national development.

Strengthening Institutions and Stability

Ben Mubarak noted that these legislative projects, alongside future initiatives such as the political parties law, align with efforts to solidify institutional foundations. They aim to sustain economic achievements and bolster stability in the political and social spheres.
