The International Community Must Fulfill Its Responsibilities Toward the Sahrawi Cause (Supporters)

Boujdour (Sahrawi Refugee Camps) – On Sunday evening, several international activists and supporters gathered in the Boujdour refugee camp to call on the international community to assume its responsibilities regarding the Sahrawi cause. This appeal was made during the opening session of the International Conference for Solidarity with the Sahrawi People.

Speaking to the Algerian Press Service (APS) on the sidelines of the conference, Swedish parliamentarian Ms. Cecilia Wadby emphasized that her second visit to the Sahrawi refugee camps reinforced her commitment to the Sahrawi cause, which she described as “close to the heart.”

Ms. Wadby noted that while she had been aware of the Sahrawi issue since the 1990s, it was her first visit to the camps that truly opened her eyes to the struggles faced by the Sahrawi people. She added, “This visit is an opportunity to witness their hardships firsthand and to advocate for their cause in various platforms and events.”

The Swedish parliamentarian also stressed her responsibility as a politician to support the Sahrawi people in their pursuit of freedom and self-determination.

Italian activist Tommaso Marconi, another participant, expressed his determination to amplify Sahrawi voices on the international stage. “Attending this conference in the refugee camps strengthens my resolve to continue advocating for the Sahrawi people’s legitimate rights and to call upon the international community to address their historical plight,” he said.

Japanese supporter Kota shared his pride in participating in the conference, stating, “This is an opportunity to convey the true suffering of the Sahrawi people to Japanese society, fostering greater solidarity and international pressure for justice.”

Palestinian political activist Mohammed Khalil, also present at the camps, declared his solidarity with the Sahrawi cause and condemned Morocco’s occupation of Sahrawi territories. He drew parallels between the struggles of the Sahrawi and Palestinian peoples, both facing prolonged injustices and international inaction.

The conference has drawn rights activists and supporters from 13 countries, including Algeria, Palestine, Sweden, Germany, Spain, Japan, Italy, Colombia, Croatia, Chile, the United States, Portugal, and Lithuania.

Participants are set to meet with officials from the Polisario Front and visit several Sahrawi facilities and administrative offices to gain deeper insights into the challenges faced by the Sahrawi people.
