Celebrating the Amazigh New Year: Bougali Praises the Role of Cultural Diversity in Strengthening National Identity

Algiers – On the occasion of the Amazigh New Year celebration, the President of the People’s National Assembly, Ibrahim Bougali, highlighted the importance of cultural diversity in reinforcing national identity and the unity of the Algerian people, according to a statement released by the Assembly on Sunday.

During the Yennayer celebrations in Timimoun, a speech was delivered on his behalf by Nacer Batich, the head of the parliamentary group of the National Liberation Front (FLN). Bougali emphasized that “Yennayer is not just an annual celebration, but a profound symbol of Algeria’s social cohesion and cultural resilience.”

Bougali described the commemoration as “a renewed opportunity to showcase Algerians’ deep-rooted cultural heritage spanning thousands of years, with Yennayer reflecting values of generosity, a love for the land, and pride in their legacy.”

Promoting Amazigh Culture and Language

Bougali also underscored the significance of the “President of the Republic’s Award for Amazigh Literature and Language,” calling it a “pioneering initiative to encourage creativity and innovation in the Amazigh language and literature.” He added that the award represents the state’s deep belief in the Amazigh cultural heritage as a vital element in strengthening national awareness and fostering unity in the face of contemporary challenges.

Celebrations in Timimoun

This year’s choice of Timimoun as the host for the celebrations, under the theme “Yennayer: The Authenticity of Victorious Algeria Woven by the Castles of Gourara,” demonstrates the state’s commitment to equitable cultural activity distribution and the promotion of each region’s distinct heritage. Bougali commended the region for its role in attracting visitors and tourists during this period, contributing to the local economy and highlighting both the tangible and intangible cultural richness of the area.

A Call for Unity and Heritage Preservation

In his closing remarks, Bougali called on Algerians to draw inspiration from the values of hard work and solidarity embedded in their rich cultural traditions. He stressed that “preserving cultural heritage is an inseparable part of safeguarding national identity and building a victorious new Algeria.”
