Preserving and Protecting National Memory: A Sacred Duty for Algeria

Algiers – On Monday, January 20, 2025, the Minister of Mujahideen and Rights Holders, Mr. Laid Rebiga, emphasized during a national conference in Algiers that safeguarding and prioritizing the nation’s historical memory, especially its security against any threats, is a “sacred national duty.”

Speaking at the opening of the national symposium titled “From Securing National Memory to Strengthening Sovereign Immunity,” Mr. Rebiga reaffirmed that protecting national memory, in all its dimensions, remains a key priority for the state. This effort is essential to fortifying Algeria’s national identity, preserving its authentic heritage, and honoring the sacrifices of the martyrs of the glorious November Revolution.

The minister highlighted that the messages of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, particularly on historical occasions, consistently reaffirm the state’s commitment to safeguarding national memory. This dedication stems from a sense of national responsibility to preserve the legacy of past generations, rooted in Algeria’s pride in its distinguished history and the sacrifices made by its people in both ancient and modern times to repel foreign ambitions and thwart the schemes of those who have long sought to undermine Algeria’s unity and achievements.

According to Mr. Rebiga, the malicious campaigns against Algeria—often marked by incitement, media distortion, and black propaganda targeting its history, people, and state—only serve as evidence of the inability of adversaries to accept the country’s progress, development, and pioneering achievements across various fields.

“The ongoing journey to honor the legacy of our martyrs by defending national memory and safeguarding our history is what enables Algeria today to stand as a strong advocate for the rights of oppressed nations on the global stage, including its steadfast support for the Palestinian cause,” the minister stated.

Furthermore, Mr. Rebiga stressed the importance of transmitting national memory to the younger generations, describing it as a guarantee for strengthening the nation’s immunity. He warned against the risks of digital misinformation and media manipulation targeting Algeria’s youth, emphasizing the need to fortify them against such threats.

This commitment to the nation’s historical legacy remains a cornerstone of Algeria’s sovereignty and a fundamental aspect of its national security strategy.
