The National Independent Authority for Elections (ANIE) has announced that the process of distributing candidate declaration forms for members of provincial and municipal assemblies interested in running for the partial renewal of the Council of the Nation began on Thursday, January 23, 2025. The process will continue daily, including weekends, until Sunday, February 16, 2025.
According to ANIE’s statement, the procedure follows Presidential Decree No. 25-56, dated January 22, 2025, which summons the electoral body to renew half of the elected members of the Council of the Nation on March 9, 2025. The decree is in line with the amended Organic Law on the Electoral System, issued under Ordinance No. 21-01 on March 10, 2021.
The statement specifies that members of provincial and municipal assemblies wishing to submit their candidacy can collect the declaration forms starting Thursday, January 23, 2025, at the headquarters of the regional delegation of ANIE. The forms are available daily from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Required Documents for Candidate Submission
Candidates must submit their declaration along with the following documents:
- Two completed and signed copies of the declaration form.
- A copy of a valid identification card.
- An extract of the birth certificate.
- Proof of membership in an elected local assembly.
- A sworn statement confirming that the candidate has not served more than two separate or consecutive parliamentary terms.
- A document verifying compliance with tax regulations.
- A recommendation letter signed by the head of their political party for candidates running under party affiliation.
- Two recent passport-sized photos.
Deadline for Submission
The deadline for submitting candidacy declarations is Sunday, February 16, 2025, at midnight.
