Tipaza – President Abdelmadjid Tebboune lauded the Algerian people’s emulation of the spirit of the glorious November 1954 Revolution generation and their dedication to overcoming challenges in all sectors. Speaking in Tipaza on Saturday, he affirmed that each stride Algeria makes today propels it further into the realm of emerging nations.
During his address at the inauguration of the “Fouka 2” seawater desalination plant in Tipaza, the President expressed gratitude to “workers, technicians, engineers, and managers,” hailing the project as a “monumental and proud achievement.”
He further stated, “This is the Algeria we cherish and all Algerians love – an Algeria that embraces challenges, drawing inspiration from those who confronted adversity on November 1, 1954. Armed with hunting rifles, they expelled the world’s fifth-strongest power (colonialism) from our lands.”
He added, “Victorious Algeria takes pride in this remarkable accomplishment. I extend my thanks to all workers, managers, executives, the energy and irrigation sectors, and Sonatrach for this significant project. Praise be to God for our progress today.”
He further noted, “Every step our nation takes today reaffirms its steady progression towards joining the ranks of emerging nations. This is thanks to the dedicated men and women who vigilantly tackle challenges across all sectors, particularly in irrigation.”
The President also commended the “advanced technologies employed in constructing this monumental plant.” He emphasized that the project prioritized preserving fertile agricultural land by adopting an approach “ensuring citizens’ drinking water needs are met without encroaching on agricultural areas.” He added, “This is an achievement we will be proud of today, tomorrow, and for generations to come.”
The President mentioned similar projects completed in Boumerdes, Bejaia, and El Tarf, as well as the Ras El Abyad seawater desalination plant in Oran, which he inaugurated last Thursday.
He affirmed, “Thanks to these projects, we are now meeting citizens’ potable water needs – an invaluable effort in terms of both resources and time. This is especially crucial as the Maghreb region faces increasing water scarcity due to drought. However, praise be to God, we were guided three years ago to pursue seawater desalination, a prudent solution.”
In this context, the President pledged to “find suitable solutions for the remaining regions of the country.”
The inauguration ceremony of the “Fouka 2” desalination plant was attended by prominent figures, including the Deputy Minister of National Defence and Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army, Lieutenant General Said Chengriha; the Minister of State for Energy and Mines and Renewable Energies, Mohamed Arkab; the Minister of Interior, Local Communities, and Urban Planning, Ibrahim Merad; and the Minister of Water Resources, Taha Derbal, alongside officials from national implementation agencies.
