Algerian Minister of Communication Emphasizes Objectivity and Skill Development for Journalists

Algiers – The Minister of Communication, Mohamed Meziane, underscored the importance of journalistic objectivity and field expertise in ensuring the highest standards of media professionalism.

Speaking at the opening of a specialized training session for journalists from various national media outlets, focusing on “Communication Techniques in Journalism,” Minister Meziane highlighted the necessity for Algerian journalists to acquire objective tools and practical skills to fulfill their duties effectively.

The minister praised journalists as “opinion leaders with significant influence on society,” emphasizing that the essence of journalism lies in enlightening the public. He also stressed the social responsibility of media professionals, noting that audiovisual media, in particular, can play a crucial role in educating and informing citizens.

Furthermore, Minister Meziane described training as a fundamental tool for strengthening both journalists and media institutions. He linked the enhancement of media performance to various factors, including political dimensions, which involve supporting major national programs, and financial aspects, where state assistance may be required in certain cases.

Regarding the advancement of media professionalism, the minister reiterated the importance of continuous training, stating that the primary goal of this session is to “equip journalists with knowledge and insight.”

It is worth noting that the six-week training program, conducted in English, is part of the Ministry of Communication’s broader plan to develop institutional communication. This initiative aligns with the Algerian government’s strategy to enhance media sector capabilities and improve journalistic standards.
