Study Day in Algiers on Algerian-Omani Cooperation in Museums

Algiers – A study day focusing on Algerian-Omani cooperation in the museum sector and the exchange of expertise between the two countries was held on Wednesday in Algiers. The event was attended by Minister of Culture and Arts, Zouheir Bellow, alongside experts and officials from both nations.

The study session was led by Jamal bin Hassan Al-Mousawi, Secretary-General of the Omani National Museum, and included the participation of heritage experts from the Algerian Ministry of Culture and Arts, the Ambassador of Oman to Algeria, Saif Nasser Rashid, and representatives from the Omani Ministry of Culture and National Museum, as well as directors of Algerian national museums.

Enhancing Cooperation and Preserving Cultural Heritage

This event, organized as part of efforts to strengthen cultural cooperation and museum management, focused on various key topics, including:

  • Modern methods for exhibiting and interpreting cultural artifacts
  • Restoration of archaeological sites and their integration into economic and social life
  • The use of digital technologies in documentation and archiving
  • Enhancing cultural tourism by promoting heritage sites and attracting visitors through joint programs

During the session, Jamal bin Hassan Al-Mousawi presented an overview of the Omani National Museum, which opened in 2013. Through documentary films, he showcased the museum’s numerous halls dedicated to both tangible and intangible cultural heritage.

On the Algerian side, Ammar Nawara, Director of Legal Protection of Cultural Properties and Heritage Promotion, gave a presentation titled “Algerian Museums: Diversity and Authenticity.” He highlighted Algeria’s over 100 museums spread across the capital and various regions, emphasizing their vital role in preserving, maintaining, and promoting Algerian cultural heritage.

A Step Toward Strengthening Bilateral Cultural Relations

This high-level scientific meeting aligns with the ongoing efforts of both nations to safeguard cultural heritage, reflecting their commitment to preserving national identity through scientific and cultural initiatives.

According to the organizers, the event also represents a significant step toward deepening cultural ties between Algeria and Oman, as it opens new avenues for cooperation in museum management and heritage preservation.
