
Algiers – Joint units of the National People’s Army (NPA), in coordination with various security services, successfully thwarted attempts to smuggle over 30 quintals of processed cannabis across the border with Morocco during operations carried out across military regions in the past week, according to an operational report issued by the NPA on Wednesday.
The same source explained that “in the context of ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and organized crime in all its forms, units and detachments of the National People’s Army conducted numerous operations from March 13 to 18, 2025, achieving remarkable results that reflect the high level of professionalism, vigilance, and constant readiness of our armed forces across the national territory.”
In the Framework of Combating Terrorism:
Four terrorists surrendered to the military authorities in Bordj Badji Mokhtar, within the Sixth Military Region. These terrorists, who were active in the Sahel region, were in possession of four Kalashnikov rifles, a quantity of ammunition, and other items. Additionally, fourteen individuals providing support to terrorist groups were arrested during separate operations across the country.
In the Framework of Combating Organized Crime:
As part of continued efforts to combat drug trafficking in the country, joint units of the National People’s Army, in coordination with various security services, arrested 41 drug traffickers and foiled attempts to smuggle 30 quintals and 58 kilograms of processed cannabis across the Moroccan border. Furthermore, 720,548 psychotropic pills were seized.
In the regions of Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, Ain Salah, and Illizi, army units arrested 350 individuals and confiscated 40 vehicles, 179 electric generators, and 118 jackhammers. Additionally, quantities of raw gold mixtures, stones, explosives, blasting equipment, and gear used in illegal gold prospecting were seized. In other operations, 21 more individuals were arrested, along with one automatic pistol, seven hunting rifles, 14,965 liters of fuel, 87 quintals of tobacco, and six tons of foodstuffs intended for smuggling and speculation.
Regarding Illegal Migration:
On another note, 373 illegal migrants of various nationalities were intercepted across the national territory, according to the same source.
