Finance: Bouzerd Emphasizes the Need to Continue Efforts to Modernize Tax Administration

Algiers – The Minister of Finance, Abdelkrim Bouzerd, emphasized today at the National People’s Assembly the necessity of continuing efforts to modernize tax administration, particularly through digitization, which will allow for the reorganization of its affiliated structures.

During a public session dedicated to oral questions, chaired by Hani Ahsen, Vice President of the Council, and attended by the Minister of Relations with Parliament, Kouthar Krikou, along with other government members, Mr. Bouzerd explained that “the tax administration is undergoing a major digitization process that will lead to a review of its local organization.”

Increased reliance on remote services will enable the redistribution of structures under the tax administration, according to the head of the sector.

In response to a question regarding the customs clearance of Toyota utility vehicles, which were “stuck, particularly at the Port of Algiers, due to the lack of equivalent certificates of conformity issued by the manufacturer,” the Minister of Finance confirmed that this issue has been addressed by a multi-sectoral team. He stated that “a practical operational model was proposed to the Prime Minister’s office and received approval.”

As a result, “instructions were issued to customs offices across the country to clear these vehicles based on this approved operational model,” the minister added.

On another note, Mr. Bouzerd reaffirmed his sector’s commitment to expanding Islamic banking services across different regions of the country by providing the necessary human and material resources.
