2026 World Cup: “The Fennecs” Intensify Preparations Before Heading to Francistown

Gaborone – The Algerian national football team continues its intensive preparations for the upcoming match against Botswana, scheduled for Friday at 14:00 (Algeria time) at the “Obed Itani Chilume” Stadium in Francistown, as part of the fifth round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The team is set to travel to Francistown by midday on Thursday, according to an announcement by the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) on its official website.

On Wednesday evening, the teammates of Mohamed-Amine Amoura, the striker from VfL Wolfsburg, held their second training session in Gaborone. All players called up for this crucial match participated under the supervision of head coach Vladimir Petković. The session focused primarily on tactical aspects, aiming to fine-tune the final details ahead of the decisive encounter, as reported by the FAF.

Before the start of the training session, the players and technical staff observed a minute of silence in remembrance of the martyrs, commemorating the 63rd anniversary of Victory Day (March 19, 1962).

At the end of the session, the players took commemorative photos with some young Botswanan players before returning to their accommodation for dinner (18:28 local time) and continuing their preparations under ideal conditions.

The national team is scheduled to travel to Francistown, located approximately 430 kilometers from Gaborone, by midday on Thursday.

After four rounds of matches, Algeria leads Group Seven with 9 points, tied with Mozambique, and three points ahead of Botswana, Guinea, and Uganda, each with 6 points. Somalia remains at the bottom of the group without any points.
