Algiers, March 26, 2025 – The President of the People’s National Assembly, Mr. Brahim Bougali, received the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to Algeria, Mr. Fernando Moran, in Algiers on Wednesday. The meeting focused on exploring ways to enhance cooperation and partnership between the two countries, according to a statement released by the Assembly.

During the talks, Mr. Bougali emphasized the importance of deepening bilateral collaboration across several key sectors, particularly in areas of security, counterterrorism, organized crime, and migration. He also underlined the need to strengthen investment, trade exchanges, and cultural cooperation.

On the parliamentary front, Mr. Bougali expressed his hope to establish an Algeria-Spain parliamentary friendship group, which he believes would contribute significantly to solidifying ties between the two legislative bodies.

Mr. Bougali also commended Spain’s official recognition of the State of Palestine, highlighting Algeria’s unwavering stance in support of the Palestinian cause and against the Zionist occupation.

For his part, Ambassador Moran renewed his gratitude to the Algerian People’s National Army for the successful liberation of a Spanish hostage. He also praised the strong and historic relationship between Algeria and Spain, noting the dynamic growth of bilateral economic cooperation, which he described as a reflection of the broad opportunities for investment and trade between the two nations.

Ambassador Moran further called for greater efforts to enhance cultural and academic exchanges.

On the international level, the Spanish ambassador reaffirmed Spain’s recognition of the State of Palestine, and stated that his country’s position on the Western Sahara issue advocates for a mutually acceptable solution in accordance with UN charters and resolutions, a stance that fails to fully support the legitimate right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination.
