The Algerian Minister of Youth, tasked with the Supreme Youth Council, Mustafa Haidawi, conducted several meetings on Friday with African Union officials focused on youth issues. This took place during his participation in the “African Youth Leaders Summit” held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from April 3 to 5, 2025.
During the summit, themed “Unleashing Youth Potential for a Prosperous Africa,” Haidawi visited the African Union headquarters. There, he met with AU Commissioner for Health, Humanitarian Affairs, and Social Development, Ama Tom Amoah; the Director of Women, Gender, and Youth at the AU Commission, Prudence Nonkululeko Ngwenya; and the AU Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Youth, Chido Cleopatra Mpemba.
These discussions centered on “enriching debates, exchanging expertise, and building effective partnerships to support youth aspirations for a brighter African future by empowering them and preparing them to play an active role in shaping the continent’s future through fostering innovation and leadership.”
In a statement, Haidawi highlighted the efforts of Algeria’s highest authorities to support youth in political, economic, and social spheres through “bold and unprecedented measures” taken by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. He noted that these steps aim to “establish a genuine path enabling youth to contribute to decision-making,” reflecting an “unprecedented youth dynamic” in Algeria, positioning them as a cornerstone in shaping a victorious nation.
Haidawi reaffirmed Algeria’s commitment to contributing to strategies that enhance the role of African youth in achieving comprehensive development and establishing effective leadership. This, he said, paves the way for a more stable and progressive continent, driven by its youth, while preparing them to address Africa’s challenges and enrich policies ensuring its future through steps to strengthen youth diplomacy with an African dimension. http://dzwatch.dz
