Algiers – June 23, 2025Algiers today witnessed the official opening of the 16th Session of the Arab Social Development Committee, alongside the launch of the 4th Arab Forum for Equality, held at the Abdelatif Rahal International Conference Center. The high-level event gathers ministers, heads of delegations, and international experts, in partnership with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA).Organized by Algeria’s Ministry of National Solidarity, Family and Women’s Affairs, in collaboration with ESCWA, the forum serves as a regional platform to deepen discussions on advancing social protection systems and addressing structural inequalities across the Arab world. The ministerial-level committee session focuses on social protection as a strategic tool to promote equality, with a particular emphasis on the reforms needed to ensure universal coverage and increase the effectiveness of social protection systems in the region—especially in light of recent economic shocks and evolving social dynamics.Taking place on June 24–25 under the theme “Dialogue and Solutions,” the 4th Arab Forum for Equality will spotlight comparative experiences from Arab, Asian, and Latin American countries, exploring the role of social protection systems in tackling key dimensions of inequality. The forum’s program includes ten interactive sessions bringing together policymakers, researchers, civil society leaders, and international stakeholders. Discussions will address gender equality, inclusive policies, and the development of comprehensive, resilient social protection frameworks. The event also offers a unique opportunity for participating countries to showcase successful models and share best practices in reducing inequalities through effective and inclusive systems and programs. In addition, the forum aims to unpack the structural and emerging drivers of inequality, while examining the social impact of recent global and regional economic disruptions—particularly in low- and middle-income countries.Organizers hope the outcomes of this forum will contribute to a joint Arab roadmap committed to tackling inequality at its roots and promoting social inclusion through bold, context-sensitive reforms.
