Algeria has strengthened its standing in the humanitarian arena after winning a four-year term on the Executive Committee of the Arab Red Crescent and Red Cross Organization, a body that serves as the organization’s strategic and decision-making hub.
The committee oversees operational priorities, guides field responses, and coordinates joint Arab efforts in times of crisis. Algeria’s election is therefore not a ceremonial role, but a practical platform to help shape policies and lead humanitarian action across the region.
In addition, Algeria secured a place on the Drafting Committee, which plays a decisive role in framing collective positions and long-term strategies. This dual achievement gives Algeria greater influence in charting the future direction of Arab humanitarian cooperation.
The move is widely seen as a recognition of Algeria’s credibility as a humanitarian actor — a country with decades of field experience and a consistent record of solidarity with peoples in need, from the Arab world to Africa and beyond.
With this new mandate, Algeria further consolidates its reputation as a reliable partner in global humanitarian diplomacy, standing alongside the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).
