Addis Ababa – On Friday, August 29, 2025, Algeria’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the African Union, Mohamed Khaled, chaired a meeting dedicated to discussing ways to strengthen coordination, cooperation, and consultation between the African Union Peace and Security Council (AUPSC) and the African Group in the United Nations Security Council (A3+), according to a statement.
The meeting served as a pivotal platform for both parties to renew the dynamism of their collaboration and coordination, aiming to enhance efforts to strengthen the African bloc within UN bodies and defend the continent’s interests in the UN Security Council. This aligns with and implements the recommendations of the High-Level Seminar on Peace and Security in Africa – the Oran Process – which has proven its effectiveness and importance in unifying African ranks.
Algeria’s dual role as a member of both the AUPSC and the UN Security Council reflects its steadfast commitment and well-established dedication to promoting joint African action to achieve security and stability in Africa and amplify the voice of African Union member states in international forums. This embodies the vision and aspirations of the AU’s founding fathers for building a united and prosperous continent.
For their part, AUPSC members expressed their satisfaction with the inclusion of this meeting in the council’s agenda under Algeria’s chairmanship. They also praised the maturity of the discussions regarding this constructive approach, which is poised to strengthen the unity of African states and elevate their standing on the international stage.
