Inauguration of the First International Youth Folklore Music and Dance Festival in Algiers

Algiers – On Thursday evening, August 28, 2025, the first International Youth Folklore Music and Dance Festival, titled “Tarbouche El-Dzayer,” was inaugurated in Algiers with the participation of troupes from several European countries.

The opening ceremony was hosted at the Mahieddine Bachtarzi National Theatre, marking the start of the festival, which aims to enrich the capital’s cultural scene from August 28 to 31, 2025. Events will take place across various recreational venues in Algiers, including Sablettes Park and the Bardo Museum.

The opening evening of the festival’s first edition, designed and directed by young artist Anis Bourahla, was organized by the Algiers Province Directorate of Youth, Sports, and Leisure in collaboration with the “Ahl El-Fan” Cultural Association for Music, Dance, and Theatre, led by Nesrine Bourahla, under the patronage of the Ministry of Youth and Algiers Province.

Under the supervision of Hani Bourahla, an orchestra of approximately 40 musicians performed a variety of Algerian musical pieces from different genres, including “Bahja Bayda Ma T’houel,” “Ya Dzayer,” “Bladi Hia El-Djazaïr,” and “El-Kasbah w Ana Walidha,” presented by the orchestra’s choir. The association’s ballet troupe also showcased dance performances in various styles, including Chaoui, Naili, Allaoui, Zandali, Targui, and Kabyle from the capital.

Following the performance by the “Layali” folklore troupe, artistic groups from European countries, including Poland and Slovakia, delivered remarkable performances reflecting their cultures and traditions through high-quality folk songs and dances, earning admiration from the audience.

In the presence of representatives from several diplomatic missions accredited in Algeria, the audience enjoyed every moment of this grand show, warmly applauding the various musical and dance troupes that performed on the stage of the Algerian National Theatre.

Previously, the Mahieddine Bachtarzi National Theatre had hosted the Rahmania troupe from southwestern Algiers, which delighted the audience at the opening of the festival’s first edition.

The festival will continue on Friday, August 29, 2025, at Sablettes Park.

This festival aims to serve as a platform for friendship and exchange among peoples worldwide, fostering the discovery and encouragement of young talents in music, singing, and dance.
