Algiers – On Tuesday, August 26, 2025, the organizing committee of the Timimoun International Short Film Festival announced that it has received more than 2,700 submissions from filmmakers across Africa and the world to participate in the competition of the festival’s inaugural edition, scheduled for November 13 to 18, 2025.
According to a statement from the festival’s organizing committee, this event, held under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture and Arts, aims in its first edition to “provide a distinguished cinematic platform with a unique artistic character, originating from the heart of the Algerian Sahara and steadily reaching out to Africa and the world.”
By focusing on African short films, the festival bets on a cinema that “combines proximity, awareness, and innovation,” as per the same source.
The festival’s competition, open to African films, covers the categories of fiction, documentary, and animation. Several conditions for participation have been set, including that the submitted works must be from an African country, produced in 2024 or 2025, and have a duration between 10 and 40 minutes.
