Algiers – Gianni Infantino, President of the International Football Federation (FIFA), expressed his deep sorrow and condolences for the passing of Yassad Doumar, former president of the Algerian Football Federation (FAF), who died on Monday, August 18, 2025, in a condolence letter addressed to FAF President Walid Sadi, according to a report by Sabaq Press.
In his letter, Infantino wrote: “It is with great sadness that I received the news of the passing of Yassad Doumar, a former international player and former president of the FAF. He was a prominent figure in Algerian football and made significant contributions to its history. Known for his dedication and commitment to serving and developing the sport in Algeria, his legacy as both a player and an administrator will never be forgotten. He will be deeply missed.”
Doumar participated as an international player in the Algerian national team’s historic first matches in 1963. At the club level, he played for CRU Les Abymes and JS Les Abymes, leaving a lasting mark with his talent and commitment.
After retiring, he continued to serve Algerian football by holding several key positions, most notably as president of the FAF from 1984 to 1986, during which the Algerian national team qualified for the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico.
Infantino concluded his letter, stating: “On behalf of the international football community, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Algerian Football Federation, as well as to the family, friends, and all those who knew the deceased. Our thoughts and sentiments are with you during this difficult time. We hope that his memories and our words of support bring you some peace and solace.”
