Algiers – The Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, held a meeting on Tuesday in New York with the President of the Republic of Namibia, Ms. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, on the sidelines of his participation in the high-level segment of the United Nations General Assembly, according to a statement from the Ministry.
On this occasion, the Namibian President conveyed her warm greetings to the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, expressing her desire to work alongside him to strengthen relations between the two countries. She underlined the historic bond uniting Algeria and Namibia, forged through Algeria’s invaluable support for the Namibian people’s struggle for independence.
In return, Minister Attaf conveyed the salutations of President Tebboune to President Nandi-Ndaitwah, reaffirming his eagerness to work with her in reinforcing the traditional friendship and the deep solidarity between Algeria and Namibia.
The meeting provided an opportunity to review the various aspects of the exceptional bilateral relations binding the two nations, while exploring avenues to elevate cooperation to higher levels, in line with the strong will of both leaders to consolidate their partnership across multiple sectors.
The two sides also discussed pressing regional and international issues, stressing the importance of further coordination within international forums in defense of just causes across Africa and the world. They reaffirmed their joint commitment to the Palestinian cause and underscored the urgency of completing the decolonization process in Western Sahara, despite Morocco’s continued obstruction and occupation that runs counter to international legitimacy.
