The Court of Algiers announced on Saturday the pre-trial detention of four officials linked to the 5 July Olympic Stadium following the tragic events during the match between MC Alger and NA Hussein Dey on June 21, 2025, which resulted in the deaths of four supporters.
The investigation involved questioning all parties connected to the incident. The judge charged several key figures, including Yassine Kaada, General Manager in charge of managing the Mohamed Boudiaf Olympic Complex; Ali Mohamed Haj, Head of the 5 July Stadium Unit; Belkacem Belmdani, Assistant Director of the 5 July Stadium Unit; Ali Atoush, Director of Equipment and Maintenance in the complex; Abdelkader Tiew, Director of Administration and Means; Hisham Ben Ameurouch, Workshop Chief at the stadium; and Soufiane Hormoz, Technical Workshop Chief at the stadium.
The accused are being prosecuted for negligence and lack of precaution leading to death, negligence leading to unintentional injuries, and abuse of function based on articles 288, 289, and 442 of the Penal Code as well as article 33 of the anti-corruption law.
On September 27, 2025, the investigating judge ordered the provisional detention of Yassine Kaada, Belkacem Belmdani, Ali Atoush, and Soufiane Hormoz, while the other defendants were placed under judicial supervision.
