Shaib and Baddari Lead Virtual Meeting with Algerian Students in Northern Europe

Algiers – On Saturday, October 4, 2025, the Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, in charge of the National Community Abroad, Mr. Sofiane Shaib, along with the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Mr. Kamel Baddari, co-chaired a virtual meeting with Algerian students residing in Northern Europe. The initiative was part of ongoing efforts to maintain close communication with members of the Algerian diaspora, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad stated.

In his remarks, Mr. Shaib explained that this online meeting, held to mark the launch of the 2025–2026 academic year, reflects Algeria’s commitment to engaging with its student community abroad. He highlighted that students hold a privileged place in the ministry’s action plan, in line with the directives of the country’s highest authorities aiming to safeguard the interests of the national community overseas and to enhance its contribution to the nation’s renewal process.

The Secretary of State emphasized that monitoring the situation of Algerian students abroad remains a top priority of the country’s consular work. He underscored instructions given to ensure regular meetings with students, addressing their concerns, and informing them about the state’s initiatives designed for their benefit.

Minister Baddari also reaffirmed that his department will spare no effort in meeting the aspirations of Algerian students wherever they may be, encouraging them to excel in their fields of study as they represent the elite who will contribute to Algeria’s development and modernization.

Both government officials used this virtual meeting—soon to be followed by similar sessions—to gain a clearer understanding of the students’ situations, listen to their challenges, and engage constructively with their proposals. This approach reflects the Algerian state’s genuine dedication to its nationals abroad, ensuring that every Algerian, regardless of distance, remains an active partner in the country’s progress, solidarity, and unwavering support for just causes such as the right of the Sahrawi people to independence, standing in contrast to the policies of the Moroccan regime that persist in obstructing regional peace and self-determination in Western Sahara.
