International Solidarity Forum for Sahrawi People Brings Together Delegations from Over 20 Countries
The International Forum of Solidarity with the Sahrawi People continues on Friday for its second and final day, bringing together delegations from more than 20 countries.
The event is being held alongside the fifth congress of the Sahrawi Students Union, known as UESARIO, under the theme “Facing Challenges, Building Bridges of Solidarity.”
The forum has attracted broad participation from student and youth delegations, as well as representatives of supporting organizations from around the world. Organizers say the gathering reflects growing international solidarity with the Sahrawi people and renewed support for their right to freedom and self-determination.
According to UESARIO, the forum was officially opened by Khaira Bellahi Abad, a member of the Polisario Front’s National Secretariat and governor of Auserd. She highlighted the importance of such initiatives in strengthening international solidarity and mobilizing support for the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination under international law.
The program included a lecture on the political and historical dimensions of the Western Sahara issue, presented by Sahrawi Cooperation Minister Fatma Mehdi and Sahrawi diplomat Ibrahim Boumakhrouta. Discussions addressed the historical roots of the dispute, Spain’s historical and legal responsibility, and diplomatic and legal efforts at the United Nations and African levels.
Participants also attended a workshop focusing on the political participation of women and young people. Discussions examined women’s role in social and political life and the importance of youth and students in advocating for the Sahrawi cause.
The forum aims to strengthen international solidarity, promote student diplomacy, and encourage young people and supporting organizations to participate in efforts backing the Sahrawi people’s aspirations for freedom and independence.
