Algiers – The United Nations Resident Coordinator in Algeria, Ms. Savina Amssari, affirmed on Wednesday that the United Nations and Algeria share the same ambition: building a world founded on peace, justice, and solidarity.
In her speech marking the celebration of the National Day of Algerian Diplomacy, which coincided this year with the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, Ambassador Amssari emphasized the shared commitment to these values. She called for joint efforts to meet contemporary challenges and fulfill the promises of the UN Charter.
Ms. Amssari highlighted Algeria’s diplomatic efforts grounded in these principles—from its historic struggle against apartheid and support for national liberation causes to promoting multilateralism in international relations and active regional mediation. Algeria is recognized as a key actor in dialogue and cooperation, demonstrated today by initiatives aimed at regional stability, African solidarity, and defending the interests of Southern countries.
The ambassador also pointed out the close cooperation between the UN and Algeria in achieving sustainable development goals and providing support to Sahrawi refugees. She expressed gratitude for Algeria’s efforts in this regard.
Regarding migration, she noted the active collaboration between the UN and Algerian government to promote regular, organized, and safe migration, ensuring maximum benefit to countries of origin, transit, and destination.
