Algeria Marks 64th Anniversary of the Founding of its National Police

Algerian Minister of the Interior, Local Authorities and Transport Said Sayoud presided on Wednesday over an official ceremony marking the 64th anniversary of the establishment of the Algerian National Police.

The ceremony was held at the headquarters of the General Directorate of National Security in the presence of Director General of National Security Ali Badaoui and senior officials from Algeria’s security services.

The commemorative activities began with the laying of a wreath at the “Wall of Loyalty” memorial. The minister and the officials attending the ceremony also observed a minute of silence in tribute to police officers and members of the security services who lost their lives while carrying out their national duties.

Sayoud later visited a special exhibition organized for the occasion. The exhibition documented the major historical stages through which the Algerian National Police has passed since its establishment and highlighted the institution’s continued development and modernization.

The event also featured a presentation of modern equipment, technologies and operational resources currently used by the police in performing their duties. Various police departments and specialized units presented their roles, expertise and working methods.

The ceremony reflected the Algerian authorities’ commitment to strengthening the capabilities of the National Police, modernizing security infrastructure and improving the quality of services provided to citizens. Recent anniversary activities have also highlighted efforts to expand digital policing and reinforce security coverage across the country.

At the conclusion of his visit, the interior minister signed the golden register of the General Directorate of National Security.

The anniversary provided an opportunity to honor the sacrifices of Algerian police officers and recognize their contribution to protecting citizens, preserving public order and safeguarding public and private property.

It also highlighted the National Police’s ongoing efforts to adapt to new security challenges through professional training, technological development and the modernization of its operational methods.
