Massive Drug Bust: Moroccan Hashish Seized in Algeria

Algerian authorities have intercepted a significant quantity of drugs originating from Morocco, marking a major victory in the fight against narcotics trafficking. The Central Service for Combating Illicit Drug Trafficking (SCLTIS) successfully dismantled two organized criminal networks in separate operations conducted in the western region of the country last week.

According to a statement released by the security services, the operations resulted in the seizure of 387 kilograms (approximately 853 pounds) of processed cannabis, commonly known as ‘kif’. These operations effectively thwarted two consecutive attempts to smuggle and distribute large quantities of drugs entering Algeria from Morocco. The first operation yielded the seizure of over 250 kilograms of processed cannabis.

In a follow-up operation, authorities seized an additional 137 kilograms of processed cannabis. The combined efforts represent a substantial blow to the drug trade operating across the Algerian-Moroccan border.

Beyond the drug seizures, law enforcement apprehended 14 suspects believed to be members of the dismantled criminal structures. Authorities also confiscated five vehicles used for transportation and movement, along with a sum of 41 million centimes (approximately [Insert approximate USD equivalent based on current exchange rate]) in cash, believed to be proceeds from their illicit activities.

The arrested suspects have been presented before the Public Prosecutor at the Specialized Penal Pole in Oran for further legal proceedings. This successful operation underscores the Algerian government’s commitment to combating drug trafficking and organized crime. The SCLTIS continues to actively monitor and disrupt criminal networks involved in the illegal drug trade, working to safeguard the nation from the harmful effects of narcotics. This latest seizure highlights the ongoing challenges posed by cross-border drug smuggling and the importance of continued vigilance and international cooperation in addressing this issue. The authorities are expected to release further details regarding the investigation as it progresses.
