Doha, Qatar – Azouz Nasseri, President of the Algerian Council of the Nation (Senate), held a bilateral meeting with Hassan bin Abdullah Al-Ghanim, Chairman of the Qatari Shura Council, on Wednesday. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Second World Summit on Social Development in Doha, where Nasseri is representing the President of Algeria.
According to a statement released by the Council of the Nation, both parties expressed their satisfaction with the strong fraternal relations between Algeria and Qatar. They emphasized the unique nature of the existing cooperation and a shared desire to elevate it to higher levels, particularly in the parliamentary sphere.
The statement further highlighted the importance of revitalizing and strengthening bilateral parliamentary relations through the activation of the Algerian-Qatari Parliamentary Friendship Group. This group, they agreed, provides the ideal framework for translating institutional cooperation into concrete actions. The Algerian Council of the Nation reaffirmed its commitment to expanding the horizons of this cooperation.
Both Nasseri and Al-Ghanim emphasized the need to coordinate positions and intensify consultations between the two legislative bodies, particularly within the Arab geopolitical group and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation geopolitical group at the Inter-Parliamentary Union. This collaboration aims to serve shared interests and enhance the effective parliamentary presence of both countries in international forums.
The meeting was attended by the Algerian Ambassador to Qatar, Saleh Attia, the Chairman of the Committee on Health, Social Affairs, Labor and National Solidarity of the Council of the Nation, Habib Douagi, and the Head of the Office of the President of the Council of the Nation, Makhlouf Sahel.
