Digital Platform to Boost Red Tilapia Sales Launched

The Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Fisheries is preparing to launch a digital platform dedicated to marketing red tilapia, a freshwater fish increasingly popular in Algeria. The Directorate General of Fisheries and Aquaculture is finalizing the project, aimed at connecting producers with consumers nationwide.

Miloud Triaa, Director of Fisheries and Aquaculture at the Ministry of Agriculture, announced the initiative on the sidelines of the 10th International Fisheries and Aquaculture Exhibition (SIPA 2025) in Oran. He stated that the platform is in its final stages of development.

According to Triaa, the platform will provide red tilapia farmers across the country with a vital tool to market their products. The National Chamber of Fisheries and Aquaculture will manage the platform’s operations. This ensures industry expertise and a direct link to the needs of both producers and the market.

The digital portal will allow any Algerian red tilapia producer to register their business and list essential information, including the production location (municipality or region) and their specific production schedule. This transparency will be crucial for efficient distribution and market planning.

The new platform will serve as a foundation for promoting red tilapia sales. ONAB (National Office for Livestock Feed) will leverage the data collected to determine the quantities available for marketing each month, streamlining the distribution process across national sales points. This data-driven approach will optimize the supply chain and ensure consistent availability of red tilapia to consumers.

The Director General also revealed that ONAB will soon establish a dedicated aquaculture branch, marking it as the first economic institution in the fisheries sector. This move underscores the growing importance of aquaculture and its potential to contribute to the Algerian economy.

It is worth noting that the National Chamber of Fisheries and Aquaculture signed an agreement with ONAB to promote the marketing of red tilapia. This collaboration highlights a commitment to supporting the aquaculture industry and ensuring the sustainable growth of red tilapia production in Algeria.
