Algiers – A major drug trafficking network has been dismantled in the capital, resulting in the seizure of a substantial quantity of psychotropic capsules. The Central Service for Combating Illicit Drug Trafficking (SCLTIS) announced the successful operation, which took place over the past week.
According to a statement released by the SCLTIS, authorities seized 176,000 capsules of foreign-origin pregabalin, a powerful psychoactive substance. The operation led to the arrest of six individuals, including one woman, all suspected of being active members of the organized criminal network.
The arrests and seizure were the culmination of intensive field investigations conducted by law enforcement. These investigations enabled authorities to identify and apprehend four members of the criminal organization within various neighborhoods of Algiers. Subsequently, the primary suspect was apprehended along with a female accomplice.
During the arrest of the primary suspect, the aforementioned quantity of psychotropic substances was recovered. Authorities also recovered the truck that was used to conceal and transport the illicit drugs. The operation, conducted under the supervision of the competent Public Prosecutor’s Office, also resulted in the recovery of three cars and two motorcycles used in the execution of the network’s criminal activities.
All suspects have been presented before the Public Prosecutor at the Kolicia Court to face legal proceedings. The successful dismantling of this network represents a significant victory in the ongoing fight against drug trafficking in the region.
