The 28th edition of the Algiers International Book Fair (SILA 2025) concluded its run at the Palais des Expositions, Pins Maritimes, recording an impressive attendance of over 6.2 million visitors. The event, which took place from October 29th to November 8th, solidified its position as a key cultural event in Algeria and the Arab world.
According to a statement released by the Book Fair’s organizers, the 2025 edition saw an “exceptional turnout of 6,241,718 visitors” throughout its duration. The peak attendance was recorded on November 6th, with an estimated 850,914 visitors flocking to the fairgrounds.
Organizers emphasized that these figures “reflect the importance of books to the Algerian public” and highlight the “growing significance of this cultural event on the national scene.” They also underscored the fair’s status as “one of the most prominent cultural events in Algeria, the Arab world, and Africa,” and its role as “an open space for intellectual dialogue and the exchange of human and creative experiences.”
The 28th Algiers International Book Fair, held under the high patronage of the President of Algeria, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, adopted the theme “The Book: A Meeting Place of Cultures.” The event featured the participation of 1254 publishing houses from 49 countries, with Mauritania serving as the guest of honor. The success of SILA 2025 demonstrates the enduring appeal of literature and the power of cultural exchange within the region. The event further cements Algeria’s role as a vibrant hub for intellectual and artistic engagement.
