Civil Defense Simulates Major Earthquake in Bouira

Bouira, Algeria – The Director-General of Civil Defense, Boualem Boughlaf, oversaw a large-scale earthquake simulation exercise in the province of Bouira today. The exercise, which commenced last Saturday, aimed to test the preparedness and response capabilities of civil defense units in the event of a major seismic event.

Mr. Boughlaf was accompanied by a delegation from the Czech Republic’s Fire and Rescue Service, led by its Director-General, Major General Vladimir Vlček. The presence of the Czech delegation underscores the importance of international cooperation in disaster preparedness and response.

The simulation involved a hypothetical, high-magnitude earthquake striking the region. Various scenarios were enacted, including search and rescue operations, medical response to mass casualties, and the establishment of emergency shelters. The exercise provided a valuable opportunity for civil defense personnel to practice their skills and coordinate with other emergency services.

DZWatch understands that the simulation incorporated the latest technologies and best practices in disaster management. Observers noted the high level of professionalism and dedication displayed by the participating civil defense units.

This exercise is part of a broader national strategy to enhance Algeria’s resilience to natural disasters. Given Algeria’s location in a seismically active region, such simulations are crucial for ensuring the safety and well-being of the population. The Civil Defense continues to invest in training, equipment, and infrastructure to better protect communities from the devastating effects of earthquakes and other emergencies.

The Director-General emphasized the importance of continuous improvement and adaptation in the face of evolving threats. He stated that lessons learned from this simulation will be incorporated into future training programs and emergency response plans.
