Algiers – The future of Riyad Mahrez with Saudi Arabian side Al Ahli is reportedly under consideration, while three players are poised to benefit significantly from the upcoming national team training camp in November.
News surrounding Borussia Dortmund’s Elias Benkara has taken an interesting turn following his first call-up to the Algerian national team. With his arrival in Algeria, discussions have emerged regarding his future with the German club.
According to reports, Benkara desires a professional contract with Dortmund’s first team. However, he has yet to receive either a professional contract or even a youth training contract. His situation appears uncertain, as his current contract with the club expires at the end of the season in June 2026.
It remains to be seen whether Dortmund’s management will renew his contract. Benkara’s decision to switch his sporting nationality to Algeria may influence the club’s decision, potentially causing them to reconsider offering him a long-term contract. Currently, Benkara plays for Dortmund’s youth team without a professional contract.
While Benkara aims to secure a professional contract with the first team, the club may opt to sign him as a youth player. These decisions will likely become clearer in the coming weeks, especially considering his contract’s expiration in June, which would allow him to freely determine his future if Dortmund does not extend his stay.
Another potential scenario involves Benkara’s complete departure from Dortmund. He is reportedly unwilling to remain with the youth team and insists on a professional contract, but the club’s management remains hesitant. Starting in January, Benkara will be free to negotiate with other clubs.
His newfound status as an Algerian international, coupled with reports of his impressive performances in the UEFA Youth League, could provide him with opportunities to join another team, even if it’s in the second division. Regular playing time in the Bundesliga 2 could be more beneficial than remaining with Dortmund’s youth team, as demonstrated by Ibrahim Maza’s rise to prominence in German football after playing in the second tier.
Meanwhile, the futures of other Algerian players are also being discussed. The November training camp is expected to provide opportunities for players like Titraoui, Maza, and Benkara to showcase their abilities and potentially secure more prominent roles within the national team setup.
