Algeria to Train 110 Somali Students in Expanded Cooperation

Algiers – President Abdelmadjid Tebboune announced today that Algeria will welcome 110 Somali students for training in various fields, marking a significant step in bolstering bilateral cooperation between the two nations. The announcement came during a meeting with Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who is currently on an official visit to Algeria.

President Tebboune emphasized that President Mohamud’s visit underscores the mutual desire to strengthen ties and explore new avenues for collaboration. He noted that this is the second visit of its kind, reflecting a shared commitment to building bridges and exchanging perspectives on matters of mutual interest.

Discussions between the two leaders focused on opportunities for cooperation across several key sectors, including energy, agriculture, fisheries, pharmaceuticals, and higher education. President Tebboune highlighted the progress made in leveraging available opportunities to intensify collaboration, particularly in higher education.

“We are pleased to announce that Algeria will host 110 Somali students for training, commencing in the 2026-2027 academic year,” President Tebboune stated. He further added, “We are committed to enhancing this initiative by providing additional scholarships in vocational training, policing, and defense.”

This initiative signals a deepening partnership between Algeria and Somalia, with a focus on human capital development and knowledge transfer. The move is expected to contribute significantly to Somalia’s development efforts by providing skilled professionals in critical sectors.
